i have a Glock model 17, 9mm. its the "old style" ive owned it for about 4 years, and bought it used from a gun dealer. ( legal )
it jams. often. doesnt matter which clip i use, it gets cleaned after everytime i take it shooting, no excess wear or damage to the mechanical parts.
loads- ive only shot target rounds through it, 115 grain, FMJ.
the empty shells get "smoke stacked" meaning they get caught in the slide/ejection port, look like a chimney.
one guy kept telling me " you must be limp-wristing it"
it jams whether im shooting single handed, double handed, or if other people shoot it. my h&k .45 never jams.... limp wrist huh Mr. ? im not a small "limp wrist" kind of guy... id like to give that guy a piece of my mind but thats not a good idea at a gun range.
im going to try to shoot 147 grain bullets, quite a bit heavier... if that doesnt work, i dont know what to do... new spring? sell it and buy a new one?
existing one is soft. slide is starting back before extractor fully engages. most likely situation if the gun ran fine before. if that won't do it look at the extractor itself, maybe a broken point, or a bad extractor spring. not likely a magazine issue, if you are using glock mags. i don't like 'em, but glocks are usually totally reliable.
My friends 9mm glock did the same thing. New springs fixed the problem. Havnt had that problem with my .40 yet. Dont give up on it, Glock is a very reliable weapon.
Have you tried different brands of ammo in it. Target rounds are notoriously inconsistant. Change brands, and more important, fire some carry rounds thru it. If it continues to stovepipe, then bring it to a gunsmith and have it checked out.
I agree with what Old Roady said. I haven't had any problems out of my Glock 30. However, if you want to know anything more about Glocks, I would suggest going to glocktalk.com
...Im not so sure about the problem being a recoil spring...
Question:
Do you keep the magazines loaded...?
Do you rotate your magazines on a regular basis...?
If you do keep them loaded, are they topped off to capacity...?
You clean your guns but do you clean the magazines as well...?
Over time the springs will compress and lose their elasticity...therby causing feeding problems such as you describe...magazine springs are cheaper than recoil springs...
Try the "Dillion Precision" website they might have glock mag springs or look for an outfit called "shooting Star", they sell aftermarket mags and springs...
This is a common problem we used to see all the time in USPSA competition...
My $0.02
Oops...My bag I just reread the post, I was thinking double feed...
i guarrenty its not the clips... i own six of clips, 2 glock mags and 4 other aftermarket ones. the clips are barely ever loaded, when i do its only one and i rotate them. like i said the rounds i shot from it were all 115 grain, whatever the gun range had to sell. so, obviously i changed brands as to whatever the rage had on the shelves.
when i get some spare cash i am going to try a new spring.
if that doesnt work ill try 124 grain, then 147 grain bullets....
if that doesnt do it ill sell it or trade it in...
I tend to think freight train has a good point
those autos can be really sensitive to pressures, to light and you get what your getting. To heavy and well let's not go there.
This is not a good thing!
Go to the heavier loads to get full pressure and see what that brings.
If you gotta spend extra money though you could sponser a human sheild by chipping in for a ticket to send a hollywood actor to bagahagdad.
I ws originally going to say limp wristing but you adressed that. I have been shooting my Glock 19 for a couple of years and have been bad recently and not cleaned it in about 3000 rounds. No jams at all. But I took it to the range for a practice session with my school group and a girl jammed it 9 out of 10 times. Total limp wrist.
It sounds like the recoil spring. A few guys I shoot with have had the problem and a new spring fixed it. Just remember to clean often, and now I have to do that my self.
Nope! Not even with the 10mm or 45acp models.
I don't and very likely won't own a Glock.
I have fired freinds Glocks at the range.
I personally don't like the feel of them .
I prefer the feel of a steel 1911.
Most of my shooting buddies say they understand what I mean after shooting my 1911's.
Not saying Glocks aren't fine weapons. I just don't care for them.
I have the 9mm models 19 and 26 and they are the best handguns I've ever owned. I mainly use the Winchester/USA 115 gr. FMJ, walmart sells them for about $6 for 50 all day long. The only time my 19 jammed was with after market mags and the 26 has never jammed. If the factory mags and different ammo don't fix your problem, take it to a Glock gunsmith.
