I have a 2005 5.4 F250 with 96,000 miles. Ok here goes my truck ran fine when I first got it. I am the 2nd owner. The cel came on a month after I got it, checked it and the codes said running lean and cat restriction. Well 5,000 miles later my truck drives good at about half throttle but and time its at all over half it dies in power, putting along even dump the trottle and no change. then the cel starts flashing. bad cats and o2s right? i talked to mike at 5 star and was woundering if i get the sct with the o2 delete and cut the cats off, put straight pipe in place would it fix it and not through a code?

So, what did he say? Did he give you his opinion or not?
Maybe you should really ask him if you didn't.
Don't automatically assume your cats are restricted. Research more in detail to confirm on what the problem is . Don't use the tuner as a bandaid for something else. I guess you could cut them off and see what happens and go from there.

Your symptoms are classic clogged catalytic converter. You should discuss eliminating the cat with Mike at 5 Star. You're getting a lean code because the exhaust cannot fully exit the engine. The fuel management system is trying to match the amount of fuel to available oxygen (not much with all that exhaust backed up) and the O2 sensor is reading the results as lean.
I can see disposing of your catalytic converter, but why would you want to eliminate the O2 sensor? It isn't the cause of your problem.
You are correct - Clogged CAT Symptoms. You have to eliminate the O2 sensor or you will have a CEL for that and the ECU will adjust the fuel to air and run lean again... this will cause you larger probs down the road. If you live in an area/state that doesnt have emissions/inspection you'll be fine.
If you have the cash, this is where you can take advantage of a bad situation and improve your truck... remove the Y-pipe altogether and put something that breathes a little better in its place.
Now, having said that... after you do what you have to with the CATs... figure out what might have caused them to fail. Eliminating the CATs is fine, but you might be putting a band-aid on a missing limb. CATs can fail, its likely that is the cause, just make sure you pay attention to your truck until you're positive.
Let us know how the truck runs without the cats... I'm looking at replacing my exhaust system and would like to know the affect of eliminating the cats.
well I ordered the SCT from 5 Star, should be here saturday so I will be taking the cats off next week unless yall can tell me how to do it myself. Hope this is a fix, if not its a start...
