I haven't changed my plugs yet, or coils or none of that. My issue when I gun the truck is still slightly there it comes and goes. The missing and sputtering that is.
Yesterday I went out to play a bit. I found a bit of of mud, and floored it trying to get through the mud... It sounded great but sputtered and missed really really bad. Then when I left to drive off and got back on the main road the truck acted like it had no power, and sounded fun when I'd gun it. It had a little wrench that appeared on the dash. I pulled over and revved it a few times, it wouldn't go past 4k RPM, normally it will go to 5. So I turned the truck off and started it back up, and the wrench was gone, and the weird acting missing was gone. The truck was fine again.
Some sort of intermittent issue. You might have gotten the air filter wet and muddy and set a code. I would have your codes pulled to see what set the light. It will tell you were to look to diagnose your intermittent issue.

Wasn't even enough mud to get it wet. It was very little mud at all. Its been so dry here. All I did was drop the rear tires off in the mud hole and gun it... It ran real bad till I pulled over and turned the truck off, and I started it right back up as soon as I turned it off, and it fixed the problem. It almost doesn't seem like a spark plug issue but maybe a fuel issue.
Forgot to mention its a 2004 Ford F150 FX4 5.4L 3V with 127k miles on it. I do not know if the plugs were changed, but I've owned several vehicles including a 1997 Expy with a 4.6L 98 Police Interceptor in it, and when the plug went bad on it, it wasn't random, and it was almost constant. I took it out, cleaned it, and it quit. Then the wire messed up and it was again constant mis fire. This thing acted like something got knocked out of sync almost, because as I said turning the truck off fixed. I don't know if the plug quit working, I mean it wouldn't go above 4k RPM when in park, and it sounded like ****. It sounded almost drowned out... Soon as I turned it off and right back on it it fired up the wrench light was gone, and it was running fine again. Went right to 5k RPM when I matted the gas in park.
you may have done something that set a safe mode for the truck to limp home and you reset it when you cut it off. we got A LOT of snow last year and i was fighting a hill next to my house and i let the truck roll down it backwards when still in drive and the truck flashed the wrench and the gas pedal did NOTHING so i freaked because im broadside blocking the road in the snow with a bigass truck that i cant move but after a bit off banging on sensors i cut it off for a min and restarted with no more issues. is this the first time it's done that?
Yeah first time it happened. It did have power just not a lot, and it sounded funny, almost like someone was spraying carb cleaner into the intake. It took forever to get up to speed. Hasn't done it again.
