Has anyone ever done away with their vent windows and just had a solid door window made. I am thinking about possible trying it on my resto. I was wondering if the factory window cranks would support a solid glass or would I have to go to a power window set up. Take a look at the first of my painted parts that I got back today and let me know what you think. Thanks.
When you make the glass longer it will put more weight on the front of the stock linkage. It may not go up smooth and put more stress on the front roller. I took a look at your truck, looks real good, I think it needs power windows to complete the rest of the good job you are doing. A power set up will let you center the lifting bar under the glass. Wing windows are one of my favorite features of my truck. That said, not sure what lurks in the void behind your door panel that may impede your wishes...
Nother I was thinking about doing away with the wing window completely and putting in a single piece of glass but I haven't decided yet. That is still a few months away but trying to get my plan together. Thanks to everyone for taking a look at my resto and any and all suggestions are appreciated.
Dropped, thanks for the info I will contact them about the window conversion. I dropped the rear 3 inches just to level it up. I will run it like that and see how it handles and looks since I installed front and read sway bars. I have a long way to go still but its coming together nicely.
Ya that truck looks sick, looked at the album after I made my last post. I wish I'd taken more pictures so far, and I reaaaally wish I could have done such a comprehensive restoration to mine. You're going to come out with a gem, the perfect "you" truck, and a piece of history that will last a long time.
Dropped, I had the frame and all drive line components sand blasted, epoxy primed then painted with a gloss black acrylic enamel paint, I also had all body parts sandblasted and epoxy primed also. What little rust that was in the truck has been blown out really well so hopefully I wont have a rust issue later. Thanks Nother, I was going to buy a new truck but told the wife since I had 2-79 fords that I would like to build one of my own that way I would know what I had and would be able to work on it when needed. I am happy with the way its coming so far.
I love the vent window! It's a great way to allow air to flow through the cab without mussing up my wife or daughters hair while we ride. Sometimes it's the only thing open. If you change it, I'd definitely keep everything in case you ever go back. If I were to add power windows, I'd just do the square portion and keep those vents. Nice truck! Good luck...
Sounds good. It will definitely be a beauty when finished.
I agree on liking the vent windows too but on a custom truck they will look great without them. Plus he has an a/c cab and and his ps and alt are all on one side so maybe he is keeping the factory air.
Hear ya Dropped! Mine is a/c as well, but I wouldn't get rid of vents or a/c. But you are right...On a nice custom truck, it will look pretty good without too!
Im not going super custom but I do want some unique customs to make it stick out when people see it. I just think a solid window would get people to say " there is something about that truck that is unique but I cant put my finger on it". Im just looking for some subtle changes to make it a little different than what you could get from the factory, but in a good way. I am keeping the factory a/c even though I hate the big box under the hood. I am adding tilt wheel and a new style bench seat but other than that its going to look stock.
