Hello I have a loud squeaking noise on the passenger side of the engine it is louder whith the A/C or heater on. It also gets louder when am getting on the gas to speed up. I was thinking it was the A/C compresser but it squeak even when the A/C is off. The belt do have a lot of play but i was thinking it was the drive belt tensioner any in put on the cause and how to fix it would be a big help. It is a 2005 power stroke 6.0.
Raptor - you are probably right with the belt tensioner seizing up, that is exactly what happened on my 2004 F250 6.0. Try squeezing the two sides of the belt below the alternator pulley - if they don't move together and spring back then the tensioner is toast.
Replace both the tensioner and the serpentine belt if it has been slipping - I recall I paid about $90 for a new tensioner at Advance autoparts. After dropping the belt off the tensioner is held on by 2 bolts which are really close to the fan shroud - you can either tackle it in the confined space or remove the fan shroud (and the fan clutch assembly) and make the whole job easier for yourself. There are other threads describing the fan shroud removal method.
thanks paul i check it out and i think that is it and i will try to tackle that before the weekend thanks for the in put listening to the squeak it is coming from the bottom not the top by the alternator. the belt has a lot of play and move losely on the pullies
