Fuelpump problem causing stumble and die

Came home the other day and close to home truck started to stumble and idle pretty bad.
This morning i replaced the fuel filter and it started right up than within 1 or 2 min. at started to idle bad and died.
Took the new filter out and there was just about 1/2 ince of fuel above that metal plate, than turned the key to see if the bowl would fill but it did not, Fuel pump? or am I checking this wrong.

Thanks for all help.

Make sure you do not have a blown fuse going to the fuel pump.If fuse is good, cycle the key and see if you hear the pump running. If not,you need a pump.

Check, If I was correct and it was fuse #19, I even swapped it with fuse # 29 (radio)? and nothing, no distinged fuel pump sound.

Any sugessions on a fuel pump, Advance or Ebay?
I'm not gonne do the intank mod from kwikordead bacause I don't use the truck that much anymore.
Also is there a writeup on how to replace that pump?

Thanks

Here's my Walbro Install on Photobucket. The Walbro has done well.

Here is some FP info in case it's electrical and not the pump. It's for a 2002, only fuse designation will be different then a 99.

Cool, I think I can do this, thanks for the links and inf.

What about the higher fuel pressure, will this not have a effect on other parts, like fuel bowl o rings etc.?

The FPR (fuel pressure regulator) will take care of the pressure. I've been running the Walbro GSL 392 for over two years and have actually put on one of Guzzle's Billet FPR Housings with black spring to increase pressure to about 72-73 psi at idle, and never under 64 psi at WOT after putting in an FPR rebuild kit. Guzzle has the FPR rebuild kit as well.

Edit : LINK for FPR rebuild kit

I like Airtex E2236. Advance and Oreilly keep it in stock. Autozone can overnight it. Sells for ~$150 with a year warranty.

Installed one several years ago.

Got-R-Going, Ordered the pump on thuesday evening, it was in on Sat and put it in today (Sun) Thanks and Reps send.

It was not to bad a job to do just a little messy.
Just a few more Questions:
1. Fuel kept coming out the line from the tank side, is this normal? I plugged it after a min. but it sure made it harder to do.
2. Cut off the old fuel line and used a regular piece of 5/16 fuel hose on the 'In' side, will this be OK? or do I need to replace that with a special one.

Other than that, no leaks and Truck is running good.

Thanks again,

no worries about using the rubber hose on the in side. if you ever get a regulated return or do the in tank mod they have you replace the whole line from the tank up to the pump with the 5/16" hose......
