While working on my truck the other day, I noticed a small bundle of wires under the hood, that are not plugged in to anything. Each wire had a rubber coated end, and they all were wrapped together. I remember a red, black, and blue, but don't remember the colors of all of them.
They are located right by the firewall, next to the master brake cylinder.
I believe those wires are open, they're installed from the factory for the owner to use when installing aftermarket accessories. Saves you trying to run wires through the firewall.
Could be wrong though, it's happened before and it'll happen again.
These are for you to run various things through without having to drill the firewall. I used mine for a transmission temp gauge. The other end of the wire is under the steering wheel; just use the same color on each side and you're ready to go!
You just had to make me open my hood. Since I am installing some goodies soon, are you telling me that this bundle of wires is just a passthrough to the cab from the firewall? I didn't check yet. None of these wires are terminated anywhere? I am assuming they just pass through the firewall and are bundled underneath the dash. How many wires are there? Just curious. Will be installing an Autopage alarm/remote starter soon.
Open your hood jimmie! Yea, the wires just go from one side of the firewall to the other. I am not sure how many... somewhere between a few and a handfull!
Matt,
I never open my hood. This is a new truck with only 1000 or so miles on it. The only time I opened the hood was to install my Sylvania Xenarcs, bug deflector, and fill the washer fluid. Total of 3 times the hood has actually been opened. BTW, never drove the truck or opened the hood before buying it. Wanted a Super Duty and that truck on the lot was the exact thing I wanted. I have never test driven a vehicle I bought. Love my truck. Almost as much as my racecar.
I thought those wires hooked to the plug and wires that came in the glove box and were for hooking up a trailer brake controller. If I missed it here, what is the plug in the glove box for and if it's the brake controller is it already hooked to the appropriate connections for the brake controller. Mike

The "pig tail" plug in the glove box is for a user installed brake controller. If you simply remove the panel under the steering column you will find the matching half to that plug. Your brake controller can be wired to the pig tail and them plugged in.
