Help please??????????

The pipe that runs up to the hood from the tramsmission oil pan has an area where the weld must have wore off and the pipe is now slightly loose. Its about 6 inches from the pan so the oil is creeping out slowlly. Can i weld this myself or am i going to do damage, can i use a rubber hose like a sleeve and two clamps? will that work. any info would be much appreciated. f250 04

Are you talking about the transmission dip stick tube? Is it leaking at the base where it meets the transmission?

i am talking about the tranmission dip stick tube, but its not leaking at the base. about 5 inches from the base there is a weld there where it meets the piece continuing up to the engine. I was trying to move it around a little cause i saw some oil there and i saw that it was loose. still kinda stays there cause the one goes into the other, but loose. can i somehow squeeze a rubber hose with two clamps there instead of running to the mechanic. can i weld it. or is it bad cause of the oil so it doesnt get too hot?

It is suppose to be that way. It allows you to remove the dipstick tube.

I really can't see that tube costing much, but you never know with it being a FOMOCO part. If you gotta pull it out to fix it anyway, it might be worth checking into.

Rubber hose should work. No pressure there. Or you could take it off and weld it but I sure wouldn't try it while it's attached.

One last question bottom line, its not supposed to be lose? I guess I'm going to pull it up enough just to sneak in a hose and clamp it tight since there is no pressure there. It was wet there and I just don't want anymore fluid sputtering out. Make sense? Thanks for the input.

Mine is bolted to the engine with a metal bracket. It's not loose.

If it is leaking oil from that high up on the tube then that is probably from trans fluid splashing up and out. There is no pressure there to push a large amount of fluid out.
My concern would be if fluid can get out then water and stuff can get in, especially with winter weather coming, stuffs gonna be splashing.

So the rubber hose and clamp idea would be a good idea?

That tube is suppose to be able to come apart at that location. I wouldn't weld it. It is suppose to have an oring on it. I would use RTV silicone from Ford.
