There was a guy here in Daytona Beach Florida that put a Flat-head into a late Pinto Wagon, it was very cool and looked like Ford put it in there!! I think it would be very cool to see one in a Dentside done right!! there are many new parts, actually I think you can buy a complete aftermarket engine now days-I know Edelbrock is big into them....

Sweetest running engine i have ever worked on. If you younger guys ever got to be around a flathead, you would marvel at the Japanese-ness of the way they run. Henry Ford built the reputation of Ford on that motor.

Sounds like something my dad would do. He's got a bunch of flat heads. The 60 horses, 80 horses and the Mercurys. I don't know too much about them but I know he's got a bunch of them in a bunch of different varieties.

Yeah,
__I've had interesting ideas in the past before.
& Still get some from time to time.

Like most here, I am my own mechanic.
It's just the tools that limit the work I'm able to do.

Most would think that putting a flattie in one of these trucks could be a step backwords, in utility proposes.
But in defense of this I can say all you need to do is just build it in the correct way
& you can have your utility & something really original too...

Nothing wrong with the idea, after all guys do other things that are more weird, like small block chevy in a ford.

I tell ya really if I had an 8BA right now I would put it in the little Ranger. It's gotta have more snoose than the POS 2.9 and would be so much easier to diagnose for me.

Who? Nobody but me touches my truck!

Yes, this would be a cool project to see. There is (was?) a guy in Texas that was building flathead motorcycles and I always thought that would be a cool ride to have. Direct drive, no trans, just turn the throttle and go!

LOL,
__a flattie in a ranger.
Now that would take two shoehorns to get in!

Other note,
chevy in a ford? Really...
It's bad enuff that some get lazy & shove something like that into a 32'.
But in a Ford truck!?! Come on...we all know ford-engines are more challenging to work on than a chev-engine.
But that is what makes it all worth while.
Personally, I enjoy the challenge of working on ford.
I don't let anyone balk to me about reliability between the two. With proper care ether lasts just as long as the other.

Heck, I love my domestics. But got to admit in the games we play with imports, we do learn alot from each other.
Guess what I'm saying is let's keep doing what we all do as we do here. Experiment with mixing ol' automotive flavors & see what happens.
Just remember, its the tossing & mixing stuff up that got us to this great point in having horsepower we want & gas-mileage to boot!
So I figure little rivalry & games is a good thing, as long everyone has fun.

Doesn't stop me from wanting to keep a ford in a ford...

If I can shove a big block in a ranger a flathead would be a breeze.

I personally love to see flatheads in things like tbuckets. they are a cool looking engine.

Like I said the one here in the Pinto Wagon looked factory installed-it was an older man that had done it, and it was very well engineered, even had power steering and factory a/c on it-brackets looked factory and not custom made.-wish I'd taken pictures!!

I guess my question would just be WHY?????? I won't even put a flathead in my '38 pickup due to the things being anemic when it comes to power. You have to spend $16k on one to get anything out of them...

Even if you have 30 dents sitting around and wanted to do it for the "look what I did" factor I still wouldn't really get it. I guess that is what makes the world an interesting place though - everybody is free to have their own opinion/style.

Now don't get me wrong - I like seeing and hearing flatties in old rods, but in something 60's or 70's it just doesn't seem right to me.
