Denny, man thats rough. I just found out someone will be hunting where I had planned so now I will be sitting in my truck in the middle of a freshly worked corn field :/ we'll see. I been told they like to travel the field though. If I get one this will be my first WI deer, kind of wierd saying it like that.
I hope the weather settles the ground enough for you to get that wagon/cart out where you want it. And best of luck opening day.
Whew! Got the shack out in the field. Right where I wanted it. It is about 30 yards out of the woods on a hill. She can see/shoot to the south and west property line and well into the woods to the north. Plowed corn field as far as she can shoot to the east. There is a buck rub less than 10 yards into the woods just over from her stand.
As long as we see deer. Buck or doe doesn't matter. The more the better. I was raised to only shoot for bucks. I let the little guys go. I've never seen a knubby or spike that was 3 or 4 yrs. Always first year bucks. Kill them and you'll never see what their rack will look like. Kill a doe and you kill her and her fawn(s). Just to shoot something brown takes the fun out of the hunt for me. My $.02. I am hoping she sees horns. She has never had a deer of her own. Crossing my fingers.
I made some big ruts getting that out there and will definately wait for frost to go get it.
Nice work Denny, bet you cant say you didnt have a lil fun trying to get that sucker out ther. Glad its all set and ready to go, start checkin things off the list. Next is that you didn't focus too much on getting your wife set up that you blind/tree/stand isnt ready. Best of luck, I want a picture of your buck.
Actually coincedence there, I discovered my skill to ignite things after I got the name and I have a very pyro personality also after I got the name.
An older name know to football Boomer Esiason, that is my name sake. And here is the story: I have an older sister whom is about 2 years older then me. When I was born I spent an extra week in the hospital and at the time Esiason was doing commercials. My sister home watching tv must have liked the name and when I got home from the hospital she started calling me Boomer. It has stuck since and is now part of my legal name.
As far as having fun getting it out there...No. No fun. I had my Dad's tractor on my moms land and that is an issue after the divorce. The last thing I need is to have to borrow her boyfriends tractor to get my old man's out. I would have used my tractor but one has the saw rig (read as anchor) on for cutting firewood and the my big tractor is in the shop getting the injection pump cranked up. I mean rebuilt.
I was up in my stand a few weeks ago when I went to scout the woods a bit. She'll do. Maybe next year I'll get a roof too. Dunno.
It's Sunday everyone, time to go on my pre-Thanksgiving diet!
I am curious what your official "pre-thanksgiving diet" is? and on a side note what the purpose is? big secret...
And for everyone else including Tim, Howdy ya'll. How was the opening weekend, no hunting for me this year :/ Yeah Boomer is me, me is Boomer and it is as official as it gets.
Deer is cut and-a-cookin. Fresh steaks for sup sup tonight. Not as big as I would have wished for but... I heard the neighbors having WWIII just before 9:00 Sat. Then I heard my wife shoot right at 9. Then again at about 9:10. She missed both times and he came runnin right at me. The first two shots I fired were just to make sure that the barrel was clear ( read as missed ). The third time was the one. He dropped on the next step. Perfect shot if I may say so. Just wish he was bigger but isn't that always the case?
I sat the rest of the day and saw a nice big bugger right at 4:00. He was just out of range for me. I can't say how many points but he had a damn nice rack for sure. I know he could smell the sack from the other buck I had hanging in the tree. He had his nose in the air and sniffed around for almost 10 minutes. I just know where he was standing was too much garbage to shoot through. I was hoping he would come up another 20 feet and get out of that junk but he was smarter than that. I have never been big into all the extras that some guys put into hunting, but I was sure wishing I had a grunt with me because I would bet I could have gotten him out closer with one. He turned toward the wifes stand and walked real slow but never came out by her. We hoped with the crappy rain and such he just bedded down but we never saw him Sunday. None of the neighbors shot him either so he is still waiting for us to tag him on Thursday.
