I have a 73 f100 with a 300-i6. I put a stock starter off of a 302 on it recently. It worked good in the beginning but now it seems to use alot of power and its not able to crank the motor anymore before it kills the battery. It starts to make a buzzing noise after just a couple cranks or or right after the first time. Sometimes it will crank the motor after its started buzzing also. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Im only twenty and its my first vehicle so I still have alot to learn.
I have been starting it with no clutch. I know its been hard on my ignition system. I just pulled my distributer cap off and my points look like they have been getting super hot. Is there anything else in the system that could be malfunctioning also?
Get a 1.5 amp maintainer and every night plug it up. Works wonders keeping the battery fresh and i have no more probs starting, even at 35 degrees.
bad grounds are the reason for this, as there is a slight amp draw from your battery that drains it ever so slightly, so when you try and start it, the battery isnt at 100% and it sounds like its having a hell of a time turning it over.
