Im new to the forum and loking at a 2001 F350 4x4 SD CC. Its a v10 one owner clean carfax with 66k on the clock. Other than the usual things to investigate when shopping for a used truck, is their anything specific to this truck and this year of engine to check for? What is the achellies heel of this truck, this motor, if any?
Thoughts?
check the exhaust maifold bolts. they tend to rot away and they can be a a real pain to replace.$$$. also check to see if the spark plugs were done. ask your local ford dealer to run a oasis report. they will need your VIN #. good luck.
OK, will the local ford dealer charge me $ for this report? im assuming i just go to the service dept and ask. Also, am i just looking for rusty bolts on the manifold or ?
thanks for the info, any and all advive is welcome- this is really shocking that it has less than 7k per year average miles- i could go monthes and not find one this low
The plugs are the main thing. It is probably best if it has not had them changed. If they have not been changed then you are probably ok. Look for info on here about changing plugs and you should be ok. Biggest problem is the plugs tend to unscrew and take the threads with them. If they are kept tight you should not have any issues.
im thinking they have probably not been serviced, atleast by the dealer. The carfax will list a dealer "service record" notation on the history report. This report shows no dealer service notation. SO i m guessing it hasnt been done. (at least by a ford dealer)
it made a big difference for me. i tow a 36' 9000lbs. camper....me+4 passenegers. the tow tune was worth it by itself. mikes a real good guy t deal with. excellent service.
Looks like a nice clean low miliage truck. Those CC long beds are hard to find. All they make now days are girly trucks with the short beds. The dealer should be able to send you a car fax on it if he wants to sell it. I have never seen an OASIS report with anything other than the basic specs on it. I just got rid of a 92 CC LB that but it was a diesel and was more trouble than it was worth to me. I would have kept it if it had a V10 in it. I replaced it with a 2000 Excursion with the V10 and I like it. What is the blue book on it?
high retail book is 16,500....so they have some room to work. Carefax is clean. its a one owner, car check score is high as well at 95.........im going to look and drive it tomorrow.
Nice Clean truck - I sold my 2001 v-10 SC with 165k - Never had an issue with the Manifold bolts or plug issues - I guess I was lucky... In fact in 10 yrs I replaced: 1 coil, Brakes, u-joints & carrier bearing, 1 tranny, lots of gas..
And typical maint. stuff..Plugs/oil/filters/shocks...
im pretty **** on my fluid maint. thats in large part why my 3/4ton suburban has 230k on the clock.
Their are very few 2500 sububans running around anymore, thats why im comming back to Ford. Also , the v10 seems to be the last of the "torque" gas motors- A diesel just isnt for me.
Im also lucky in that my work gives me a gas card...my truck is covered
stay tuned sports fans, i drove it last night and all seemend well. i didnt buy it.......yet. Dealer is working some numbers, we shall see. i might be a member of the brotherhood soon- maybe.
