I have a 2000 silver xlt that keeps getting these tiny gold/rust colored spots on it. They show up all over the veh. I have gone back to the dealer and they have blamed it on everything from the water I use to wash it to the metal shaving from when I had the sunroof installed. They have buffed out my veh. twice and have acid washed it also. The spots were gone for a while and have now started to return.
They are now telling me that it is being caused by brake dust. If thats the case then why doesn't every other veh have this.
They now want to re-buff my veh and and a paint seal put on it. Has anyone else had this problem??? What did you do to get rid of it? I am really having a hard time with the dealership and with ford. They can't give me a straight answer and they just keep trying to fix it and so far nothing has worked.
I had this happen to a truck I had, but it was my fault. I was sharpening some lawn mower blades with a grinder. I was about 20 feet away from the truck. I thought that was far enough away. the fine metal grindings stuck to the truck and I was told there is no way to get them out of the paint. If they used a grinder on your sunroof or it someone has used a grinder near your truck, that could be the problem. Good luck on finding the cause.
