School me on C4's
Hey guys,
I'm currently in the process of rebuilding the engine and transmission for my '64 F100. The 351w is at the machine shop waiting it turn and in the meantime I would like to know a bit more about the tranny. From what I've seen online its a pretty straight forward job, but I would like to know if there are any tips, tricks, or other advice you can offer, as this is my first go at rebuilding a transmission. Thanks.

A clean area is mandatory.
As each unit is removed take a picture and lay it in sequential order.
The direct clutch spring will have to be compressed to remove the piston but that's no big deal if you are a McGiver type.
Clean using a solvent of some form, I use varsol, then compressed air.
Stay away from carb or brake cleaner because the fumes can be deadly.
It isn't rocket science but can be threatening.

How about the internal parts? Should I spring for a complete rebuild, and if so what "upgrades" would you recommend, shift kit? valve body? This trans shifed fine before I pulled it, It got leaky one day and slipped a little and I shut it down, topped it with ATF and nursed it home about 10 miles. As long as I kept it full it was ok.

The best advice I can give is to but BadShoe's C4 rebuilding DVD. Absolutely the best $35 I spent. He makes it look easy!
