Purchased a 2004-Need some help

These are minor things...I just bought a 2004 Excursion with the 6.0L PSD. It has the keypad on the door and I do not have a code for it. Is there anything I can do besides take it to the dealer to figure out how to change/set the code?

It also has the three buttons on the visor to control the garage door. I cannot for the life of me set it to get it to work. I downloaded an owner's manual while I wait for mine to come in the mail. Can anyone help me do this? It's a small thing but I want it to work since I have it!!

Also, is there anything I should be looking at right now? It has 84k miles on it and seems very clean. This will be our daily driver so anxious to see what you guys say I need to do.

Thanks for your help.

Did you get an Oasis report to see the repair history on the truck? I would do a coolant flush if its original coolant for sure, new fuel filters. There is tons of maintenance info here at fte! It could save you tons of money later down the road if you keep up on specific maintenance item on the 6.0!

For the code on the door it is on a sticker behind the radio. You can see it by looking under the dash right behind the radio. It is tight quarters but it's there. Black numbers on a white sticker. When I got my 2004 that is where I found it, I wrote it down then added a new one that was easier to remember. Not sure about the visor sorry.

The HOMELINK is whats on the visor. You need your garage door controler with you in the car. Press and hold garage door you want to asign, thenpress the button on the visor you want to asign it too. in 30-45 sec. the light will flash slowly, then it will flash quicky thats when you can release all the buttons. If you have a rolling-code secure garage door, you will need to press the learn button on the actual motor lift part of the garge door and within 30sec press the button you have asigned. It all should work. If you need more info just google "Homelink system".

Thanks. I have tried all the above several times and cannot get it to take. I have two remote controls for my door opening and have tried both of them. Still no luck. I have reset it several times by pressing the two outside buttons until a constant flashing as it says. At that point I then press my remote and the left button simultaneously and wait for it to flash rapidly at some point my door opens up then stops. It seems it is getting part of the signal or at least enough to stop the door from going completely up but then when I press it to close the door or for the door to go all the way up nothing. I have done it also with the home button on the unit in the garage and no go. I will try again today and see what I am missing.

Thanks again.

Yes I got an oasis report and not sure what to think of that. It is virtually empty. I also got a "Standard Claims List for Model Year 2004" report that has 4 recalls that were performed and one replaced alternator and an engine light came on and it says they replaced an actuator. I will get the coolant flushed today. That sounds like a good idea.

Thanks for your help.

Make sure and use the vc9 that Ford reccomends. The oil coolers plug on these 6.0 motors and can then take out the egr coolers. Some guys install coolant filters but I didn't. I paid the high price by following fords recommendation on coolant life and had expensive repairs.

Okay...got the homelink button to work. Yipee!!

I entered every last set of numbers on that freaking list and my doors did not open. I am guessing I needed to disconnect the battery(ies) and then start over. I am not sure if I am going to do that or just break down and pay the dealer to do that for me. I feel defeated and freaking tired. Took way more than 20 minutes to enter all those in.

I finally got mine to work. Here's how I did it. I parked the Truck in the garage. Held the two outside buttons until it flashed rapidly. Then I pushed and held the button on my opener and then pushed and held the button on my visor. (I used the one to the far left). Once it blinked rapidly it is supposed to be done. Then I got on my ladder and pressed the home button on the garage door opener. Then got off my ladder quickly and held that left button on the visor until it closed my door. I did notice now that you need to hold that button for a while when you want to either open or close your garage door. At least for my door I did.

FYI I watched several Youtube videos on this and that is how I got the idea that I might need to have the truck in the garage. I was trying it outside the garage.

I hope that helps. I still did not get my door keypad to work but that is for another day.

Thanks your explanation was the trick. I also looked at a few Youtube videos. I think what I was missing was to have the truck IN the garage at the time. I was trying to do all this in the drive way.

Thanks again

If you take a small vanity mirror, open your drivers door, lay on your back with your head in first next to the accelerator, stick the vanity mirror up in behind the radio facing the firewall and there is a box with a white sticker with 5 numbers printed on it. Remember the numbers will appear backwards in the mirror. I did this to find mine on my '04 and it is there.
