2011 nav/stereo upgrade

anyone know of any issues new or different with installing an aftermarket touchscreen stereo / nav system in dash for the 2011 super duties

want to keep steering wheel control, assume existing sych/gps antenna will work too

want bluetooth/add a back up camera etc

welcome any hints on removal of existing stereo too

HAPPY TURKEY DAY to all!!!

Done about a dozen 11's for stereo's for a local dealer. Customer bought a bunch of cab chassis trucks so we added GPS for them. Same parts required as the 08-09 F-150's so easy to get and Basic harness. Metra and best kits both make harnesses for them BHA-5800 for best kits unless it's a factory sub equipped truck then you need a BHA-5800R. Not sure of the Metra P/N though. If you need the factory amp powered up(only trucks with sub) then throw a 4.7-10k resistor on the remote turn on lead(blue/white) as i believe ford uses a 5V turn on signal so it will cause a "pop" without it. Also if you have a factory sub truck then avoid any deck with a zero-bit mute cirtut like sony. They will cause the same 'pop' sound when you skip tracks as the head unit mutes but the amp doesn't. Most people don't have the factory amp anyways though so shouldn't be a huge problem.

As for GPS I wouldn't bother with the factory unit, I imagine the GPS antenna would be run with the factory wires making it difficult to remove from a doner vehicle and the aftermarket systems work better IMO. Also if you have a factory GPS and don't want to spend the ridiculous amount the dealer wants for a replacement I doubt you could use your factory GPS antenna for an aftermarket unit but look on METRA's site(www.metraonline.com) because they update often and do make similar kits for other brand trucks.

x2 on the PAC steering modules(www.pac-audio.com), have one in both my vehicles, program easy and work well. You will need the specific one for your deck though as they make a few so if you change brands later it may not work.
SWI-PS for Pioneer or Sony
SWI-ECL2 for eclipse decks
SWI-JACK for JVC, Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood, OEM, Valor & Blaupunkt Radios
SWI-X is a universal unit that will work on any deck with a IR remote but will require mounting of an IR transmitter.

Now for SYNC they also make a SYNC retention module but it removes the control from the deck and puts it into a seperate controller that needs to be mounted on the dash. Works well but looks a little tacky.

Hope this helps

Sounds like it would be easier to get the OEM Nav.

Pioneer Avic here. It does everything well except I find the handsfree cell phone use a bit annoying....crystal clear on my end but the other end static and loud. everything else works great. Streaming music via bluetooth is a pretty cool idea and works well.

I have the Pioneer Avic -X910 BT and BT calling is great on both ends.

the x920/Z110/Z120 have a problem as u have noted.

only thing I don't like so far is the control to start voice activated dialing. its push IN on the joystick control..
(without wiggling up/down/left/right).. hard to do while the truck is moving.

one thing I miss on the nav compared to my Magellan is the quick ability to look at the rest of the current planned route
to see what the turns are upcoming.. You can do it, but it takes 4 steps as I recall.. and u shouldn't be looking away
on the magellan it was push the arrow for the next turn.. (lower left of the screen)

unless u mean 47k? Yellow/pink/yellow/(gold or silver, +/- 5-10%)

I have a Kenwood DNX 6960 in mine. Bluetooth, DVD, nav all the good stuff. I used Sams write up to figure mine out.

Sam - Ooops my bad I meant 4.7K - 10K ohm. It's a range but pretty much whatever you have lying around or what you can find. I usually use 4.7K ohm but I've gone with a 10K ohm when it's been the closest thing on my bench lol. If anyone has a Mach equipped mustang this is the trick for them as well.

In my truck I'm running a Pioneer 3200 BT with external Nav module. I went from multiple Avic-X910BT's(btw one of the most problematic deck in Pioneer's history), to an AVIC-X920BT(Dramaticly improved by moving from a Windows CE based device to a propriatary software) and ended up at the 3200 because of load times. With the external nav module there is no load times. The deck is done booting completly by the time my glow plug light goes out on a cold day. Does absolutely everything the AVIC's do with one exception. If you use Avic Feeds it will auto update the contact list but won't let you use the contact list to directly plot a route. You just have to enter the address over manually. Lots of good info on the Pioneer Nav units over at www.avic411.com

thanks, now to yank my dash apart again!.. I didn't do the 920 based on feedback on avic411.com.. slow load times are a pain for sure
