Need everyones advice

I currently have a 1988 7.3 idi with a banks sidewinder turbo kit on it. I buying a 1993 and 1/2 7.3 idi with a factory turbo because my current motors reading a little bit low on compression and i can get the new motor for less then the cost of a rebuild kit+machine shop. I wana rebuild it to be stronger.

What turbo setup would be better to use?
Im gonna upgrade injectors while im doing it, what else can I do to make a little bit more power?

Thank you!

No question use the banks system sell the stock system to get injectors (: As far as performance u can get a moose ip and injectors and the cam grind from typ4 thats about it other than lower compresion for more boost.

Keep the factory turbo, even though it says Ford it's an ATS turbo, and it would be easier to get parts for.

As for the Banks I've heard getting parts for them is getting tricky.

Agreed. but disagreed!

Harder to get parts, but the Banks system hands the factory turbo's a** on a plate! I upgraded factory to Banks, its not even comparable!

I haven't driven a banks one, but I've got a factory with the 3" down pipe and it's plenty of turbo. No problem pushing 13-14psi boost when I've got a load on it, I'll see about 10-12psi if I really put my foot into it empty. Lots of people complain about working on the trucks with turbos, but I just did injectors and injection pump last night and it was a piece of cake - didn't have to touch a thing on the turbo. Maybe everyone that complains that a turbo makes it so much more difficult to work on has a Banks

did you make or buy your down pipe?

i have minimal exhaust ie just a 3" to a 4" single stack so either way i think i should be good, i may look at upgrading the dp depending on what i find, to be honest i have never really looked at mine before

I got my turbo from a junkyard. The previous owner of the truck had done the ATS 3" upgrade for the downpipe, however the junkyard sliced the down pipe in 1/4th with a torch so All I had was the first few inches out of the elbow. I calculated what I'd need for bends and made a trip to the local exhaust shop and 20 bucks later I had a new downpipe. I just welded it onto stub of a down pipe I had left, slid it in place and worked great.

a moose ip is having yours rebuilt with some secrete tricks and meticulously inspected with specs set properly.
if your asking about price, you likely don't want one.
(think pricing of what used turbo's go for,for a ballpark figure.)

cam info can be found here:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-cam-typ4.html

those are good injectors.

people seem to be having trouble getting the larger ATS down pipe outlets iv been noticing.

TheDocta,
hit me up with a pm once you decide which turbo you'll be selling.
as long as she has a waste gate,i don't care who makes it.
unless you have plans for it already.if not id like to get first offer.

Put on the one that's fine, have the bad one rebuilt into a moose pump, then put that one on your truck and save the other one, and then sell the napa one.

is the moose pump just specifications that you adjust your pump to or do you send it somewhere to be re manufactured?

You send your pump out and have it rebuilt, that's why it's a good idea to have an extra pump to send so your truck isn't sitting the whole time.

Here's a thread on the moose pumps:
