12 MPG...WTF...

Here's my speed vs mileage based on the quarter million miles I've put on my early 99.
Carpooling up the butt crack of San Jose in the "commuter lane" at 45-50, 16.9 MPG (single best tank ever)
Driving mostly at 70 or therabouts, 15.5
Driving mostly at 80-90, 13.4
Towing, much lower average speed, 14+
I've done the math (fill to the brim and bust out the calculator) at least 25 times and the number that shows up more often than not is 13.4 which is what I would estimate my city driving to be as well. As noted in my sig I drive the truck hard. I often shift at 3k when warm.
In all instances I have run BFG All Terrain either a 285 or 295 not all that highly pressurized, usually 55 in the front and 45 in the back.
As for the DP Tuner? It gives me the the all important ability as a red-blooded American male to burn a little more fuel if I want or need to! I look at it in terms of SMG anyway. Smiles Per Gallon.

Diesel #2 sucks. I noticed they changed to it early November and I have lost 1 to two mpg consistently.
I have been experimenting with my DP tuner a lot, since I put it on i have been seeing 16.5 to 17 mpg, empty, mostly mountain highways with a few rush hour traffic occasions and anywhere from 2 to 5 hours idling when its super cold between warm ups and sitting in traffic and a no start issue i had.
I had the luxury of testing economy on a 500 mile stretch between Flagstaff and holtville before and after a dP. Playing both directions around 75 to 80 mph I got 14 mpg heading south and 16 mpg heading north on 80 e.
It appears i get about .5 mpg better in 60 e vs. 80
Over the summer, with just a 6637 and straight piped exhaust i was seeing 18 regularly. I think when they switch back to regular diesel, I should get 20 mpg.
I am running 285 duratracks that have 20000 miles on them

I'm lifted, running 315s, AFE intake, 4" MagnaFlow exhaust. Best mileage I get is around 14. That's if I drive sensibly and fight the urge to roll coal or do burn outs. Put a trailer behind it with some weight (>5000#s) and it really sucks the fuel. Before I lifted it, put big tires on, and chipped it, it got around 18.
Doesn't matter to me, truck looks better lifted with meats.

35" a/t's, 4" lift, superchip, 4" mbrp turbo back and afe air filter. usually get close to 14 mpg with mixed driving. Most I got was a little over 15 driving to Dallas at 80-90 which I found kinda weird but wasn't complaining any since it made the drive quicker and made better fuel mileage!

almost bone stock late 99 200k, 285's instead of 265's a/t's les schwab(forget exact name, average tread pattern little more aggressive than street tread but not full blown offroad) and 6637 filter mod, since the filter ive probably done 3 or 4 tanks through it, all in-town driving(in greater seattle area traffic) and average 12-12.9 on the lie o-meter and 12 or so when i do the calculations(not to much lie to me lol) when i went down to my moms in goldendale(3-4hrs away) over a mountain pass(i90) averaged 14 mpg on the lieometer, on the way back we drove the long way (4-5hr) and averaged 15.2-15.5 on the lieometer. i am still running on that tank in town driving and its hovering around 14.8-15.0.
so 12mpg around town is relatively normal for me.

12 mpg isn't too bad with all in town driving. With winter blend fuel that it about what I get. Maybe 13-14 if I'm real light footed. Also, if your fuel filter hasn't been changed in a while that will effect mileage too.
In the summer, without towing and on a long drive if I don't go over 70 mph, I'll get 18-20 on a long drive.
In the winter, with a mix of city and highway driving I get in the 14-15 range.

Dont really know why anyone would want to lie about getting better milage. Nobody has even been able to tell me what type of chip my truck came with (4 position ***), but with it in the 2nd position I get 2mpg better on the highway. No lie! Dont really know if it adds any mpg in the city, but power yes.
