Wheel base ideas
Here's what Im thinking;
I can build new shackle mounts to fasten to the frame. The front mounts could be right behind the cab of the pickup. Ii would build the new mounts so it is 2" lower than the factory mounts and then I could remove the factory lift block (bump stop) from underneath the spring pack on the axle. A 4" or 6" suspension lift would releive the problem of the frame contours not being located right above the axle.
Build new ataching points for the shocks and shorten the drive shaft. Remove the fuel tanks and mount a new fuel cell on top of a custom built flatbed.
The truck Im considering doing this to is a 79 F350 4x4. Im not sure yet what the new wheel base would be but somewhere between a shortbed ford and a bronco.
This truck has the driveshaft carrier so can I simply remove that and use a driveshaft bolted strait to the yoke on the transfercase?
My concerns are, adding stress to the frame in areas that arent going to be able to handle it, rear driveshaft angle, relocating the brake lines and cables.
I can build the flatbed to whatever length I wind up with in the end. What else am I not thinking about?
