Okay - I have searched all through the threads and can't find anything similar to my problem. I purchased a 07 F250 (6.0) around 4 weeks ago and have ran a couple of tanks of fuel through it but never below a 1/4 tank. Tonight I was heading home and let my fuel run low and my warning light came on and the display showed 'low fuel warning' - I hit the reset button (and it showed 50 miles left till emtpy on my display) and shortly after - my engine died. I tried to start it several times and it finally started again, but ran really rough. I was able to make it about 2 miles to a gas station and filled it up. It ran real rough before I filled it up and for about 2 or 3 minutes after I left the gas station, but now everything is great. I am a diesel newbie and would like to know if this might be just due to running the fuel so low and could there be a moisture or filter problem. Any advice or ideas would be greatly welcomed.
Thanks for the advice and the posting - it looks as though my fear is relieved. I will look into doing this next weekend. I was lucky that mine re-started and lasted long enough to get me to a station - it looks as though many leave them stranded.
Yeah mine always shut down on the same stretch of road. There is only one diesel pump on all of Fort Polk and it would always hit me when I was driving from South Fort to North Fort to get fuel. It's a straight stretch that there is nothing on so I would be stuck walking about 3-5 miles to North Fort to get fuel.
Usually my truck would start stumbling around 1/4 tank and the fuel light only ever came on once before I fixed it and my truck shut down within 1/2 mile after it came on.
