Hi guys!
Talk about bad luck: Sold my -99 F250 SD PowerStroke Diesel Truck and the guy who bought it just called me (5 hours later) and said that the Power Steering failed - also the brake system went bad in that he has to push hard to break. I asked him to check the oil level and he came back and said there is a big oil leak and that the container is almost empty. What do you think could be the most possible place for a leak? A hose? A gasket? A pump? Where should we start to look? Any tips are appreciated. Best regards,
Lennart
As far as the brakes, the power brake assist on the Diesel trucks is provided by the power steering pump. When you get the power steering fixed I'll bet the brakes will be fine.
Where the pressure line passes by the driver's shock tower is a common place to wear through the hose.
Because it is a hydroboost unit, as has been said above, when there is no hydraulic pressure for the power steering, the "power" in power brakes goes, too.
