Ignition systems

Using the OE Dspk2 on my truck. Always had contamination problems with the cap electrodes and the rotor. Switched to Brass which definitely helped, but I'm wondering if a better system is available. Once it won't start now I know again, it's time to go clean-up the electrodes. If this was the old points system I'd know the condenser was 'weak', but.....

You could spend more money, but my opinion is you already have the best to use.

Might get a little improvement in the ignition by using the GM HEI module with the DS2 dizzy otherwise you might consider a MSD 6 or Mallory HyFire 6a box. A Summit Street and Strip might be a better buy though. Either way you might end up with more bragging rights than actual performance over the stock DS2 box.

If the cap and rotor are getting contaminated check the PCV system. The distributer shaft bushing, seal, or shaft might be worn too. None of my Fords have had this issue but my slant six did and the seal was gone. When my PCV clogged on a GM 4.3 it forced oil vapor into the cap.
