Well even though it was cold in my neck of the woods today I set about to clean up my saddle box, actually I had no choice it was jam packed with empty washer fluid jugs, Once I had every thing strewn about and ready to go back in I had a thought, I cut the spout off one of the jugs about 4 inches around leaving the handle intact, and went about filling the jug with my tiedown straps.
Then did 2 more for my chains and ropes. Then I started cutting like a mad man, I packed up about 8 or 9 jugs with misc small stuff that I just can't seem to live with out in the back of my truck.
Some of the square ones will hold a couple of quarts of those messy fluids and a rag, like oil, atf, bar oil, etc to contain the drips or leaks...
A old waste rag with oil on it will keep chains from getting rusty. Spray some lubricant (not wd40) on the chain when you store it. The rag will soak up the excess.
i sure hope you have a tailgate, because if those jugs are just in the bed,and youre tie down ropes are inside 1 of the jugs they will slide all over the place... and may fly back at the driver behind you...rut ro rorge

Pancake "There in my saddle box"
But there sure are times I wish I could let something heavy slide out the back on some of those tailgating, multi lighted, high beaming, sons of whatever my wife chooses to call them
good idea. i built a wooden box to hold my stuff behind the seat on the floor. keeps stuff from fallin out when i open the door. i cut up an antifreeze bottle for my chain.it fits neatly behind the seat even with the seat all the way back.
You guy's have some really great idea's. I've alway's just stored thing's behind the seat, but I get real annoyed the way all of it make's nose while driving.
I got to looking around one day at all the left over jugs I had and got a revelation. Since I hate hauling my used oil collector/canister in the parts store for oil return because it is so awkward, I started filling the gallon jugs. These things are PERFECT for this because they are soooooo easy to handle. They tied down in the back of the truck a whole lot better because of the ingenious handle location (ok, I know I may be pushing it a bit).
They also make good weights. Fill it with water and you have an 8 pound weight. Again, the ingenious little handle is perfect to tie stuff to.
Milk jugs with the tops halfway cut off just leaving the handle are terrific to take to the wrecking yard. Just throw the necessary tools in and away you go. Works fine hauling all those little bitty things you see there that just have to move in your garage.

I use the jugs that come with some brands of clumping cat litter for used oil. They have a wide mouth, screw on caps, and will last a couple of years

I do the same thing, those jugs are nice and big and have those big wide mouths with a nice screw on top and them things are easy to mark on too if u wanna make sure you know whats in each jug
Mark 'em??? -Just take a big swig if it is sweet that's AF, if it's thick it's gear oil, if it tastes kinda acid and bitter it's oil, if it tastes like beer then hide it... -For later!
