I run 285/75R16's at 65 which is max tire pressure. Max pressure for my truck mostly empty provides the best tread wear and life. I don't notice much of a ride difference with I drop to 55 psi and I won't run any lower than that.
There's a lot of difference in opinion on this matter. With 235/85 16s I used to run the door sticker specs - 55 front 80 rear. 80 is way too rough for daily driving. I swithced to 55 psi all around and it was just fine. Great tread wear, smooth enough ride, and good mileage. I stuck with that after bumping up to 265/75 16s. In trying to troubleshoot my terrible mileage problem I bumped them up to 65 psi all around this week. I can definitely tell a difference in ride quality after only like 75 miles. It's rougher but if it helps my mileage then so be it. Some people put a stripe of white shoe polish, finger nail paint, soapstone, etc across their tread and then adjust the pressure til it wears evenly. Sounds pretty logical to me.
i use the shoe polish trick i run 265/75/16 TOYO OPEN COUNTRY AT 12ply i run 52 front and 50 rear unloaded when loaded i bump them up to 65 front and 80 rear
Sounds good folks. I'm going to run them at 65 all around for starters and see how it goes. I have the BFG KM2 Mud Terrains in 285 75 16 LT. I believe their max pressure is 80 psi.
