BANG in 97 Exploder 5R55E Trans !

Hi and thanks for looking, this is awesome forum I stay up way too late reading and reading... but now I need some help if possible.

Project restored a 97 Exploder after it was wrecked and badly rusted, engine in great shape. But I've got trans problems, looking for advice.

V6- Automatic - Sport

Was driving down road at 40 mph, it dropped out of gear, still in Drive but press on pedal and engine running but no go at the wheels. Coasted to a stop off side road. Started/ Stopped several times would not go into gear.
After 5-10min, started again, went in gear and drove down road fine about 5 miles, coasting to stop at light, BANG! in trans I think, I move to neutral and stopped. 10 min later started ran fine, now driving home, 8 miles fine... shifted fine... coasting to house and BANG! again, coasted into driveway.

Now in garage, can start back in out of garage no problem, no strange sounds.

Any ideas ?

Any recomendations for Trans shop in Raleigh NC ?

Mine banged and broke the input shaft, so I was told as they shoved a new unit in under my ESP warranty....

Be prepared, you are looking at $2500+++++
