I have a 95 supercab f150,4x4, 3.55ls rear and aode tranny with the 5.0. And 31x10.5 tires. I need some more power. Its like this truck has no bottom end power. What couod i do to get more power without breaking into the engine. What am i going to get the biggest gain out of? Headers and exhaust? I read somewhere that the 302ho throttle body is bigger theb the stock truck one? Is this true?
What would be the biggest thing i could get a gain out of? Im tired of getting picked on by the 2wd silverados lol. So whats the major things i could do and whats some smaller things? Such as advance the timing.
If you want to keep up with the pesky later model chevy's you are going to have to break into the motor. the 5.0 is an anemic bitch in a 4wd pickup with that tall of tire. You need full exhaust, cam, better intake manifold (upper) throttle body and electronics to make it all run right like a maf conversion. The lower intake won't kill you untill you get closer to the 300 hp area. it's not hard to wake up a 302 but they are a small engine and need more air flow. best bang for your bucks would be to regear it to 4.11's and do exhaust.
Any parts i could steal from other vehicles to cut down on cost? Im planning on longtubes and true duals. That would be opening up the exhaust side what about the intake side? Different air filter setup or anything?
Btw it is maf
Contemplating the idea of 4.10's. I would have to change the front and rear gears right?
Im not quite ready to go tearing into the motor quite yet. Throttle body and intake maybe but that would be about it for now.
So what are my options for throttle body and upper intake?
Good tune up , advance the timing as much as you can , headers & free flowing exhaust , 1.7 RR , is your truck mass air ?? Gears , i would keep the truck intake , if you want to go bigger on the TB bbk makes a 61mm for the truck , if you do that then better heads , more cam & upgrade the air intake....Lew
it just seems like its not enough motor for this truck sometimes.
It's not. I have the same truck with a cam and exhaust and it can hang with the newer trucks if need be but I don't often do because I'm trying to get something that resembles fuel milage. A truck this big still needs more gearing though, I'd have 4.10's now if I had the $$. And don't bother changing anything on the intake side of the motor except maybe the intake snorkle, everything else is plenty big enough to handle any furure engine upgrades.
Well its good you have MA , when you decide you want a cam there are alot of choices for roller cams with MA , when ever you start getting the motor to the point it flows more air you will want to upgrade the air intake system , nothing fancey just an open element air filter will do JMO....Lew
Ooo I love these threads...you have a 4wd version of my truck....while I am contemplating a windsor swap myself...my "polished turd" kicks some *** with the stock camshaft. These guys have you on a good roll.....It's too bad Jay Allen isn't grinding cams anymore....a custom ground cam with be your best investment.
Your truck needs gears. That will be the best bang for the buck you can do to it. The 3.55s are alright for stock tires, but for 31s the really just barely cut it. It needs at least 3.73 gears. I would go with 4.10 though.
I have 3.55s and wish I had 4.10. The 302 needs gears.
I thought that the BBK twin 56mm was more suited to 302/351 trucks that were stock or near stock, and the the twin 61mm was more for heavily modified trucks. From what I have read changing the throttle body to a BBK unit will not help much if any. Is that really the truth?
