HORRIBLE dash squealing - FIXED
Ok, I have read about a few others having this same problem but never found an answer for what the awful squealing noise coming from the dash was actually caused by. I took a digital recorder with a mic, turned the sensitivity down almost all the way, and my buddy and I hit the highway.
Once the squealing started, we began recording, giving detailed descriptions of where we were holding the mic. When we were satisfied that we had enough audio, we went back to the house. The theory was that we would listen to the recording, and wherever the noise was the loudest...
BINGO!! Found the problem pretty quickly listening to the recording. It was actually not anything in the dash at all, but the trim around the windshield vibrating... a couple pieces of tape to verify...
Been a few days and haven't heard it again. I'm gonna go to a glass shop and see how much to have that trim re-glued. Until then, the tape is doing well.
I hope this helps even one person before that noise drives them insane.

i have a squeal too. happy to say, it's the very first thing to bug me about this truck. i have a 2003 f-250 super duty fx4. i will look into the trim. thanks for posting this. by the way, i looked at your 84. i had ordered an 83-84 back in 83 but never got to see her. long story short, she was sold the day it arrived. actually, it was sold before it was driven off the truck. i still think about her from time to time...best of good fortune with yours. especially since it was your grampas. that makes it worth it right there.

Thanks for that. That truck means a lot to me, and everyone in my family is telling me to junk it... I'm gonna buy a couple of parts trucks for body/interior and a 7.3 work truck with a 5 speed manual and throw it all together. I'll let you know when I get started on it good. Friend request sent.

Super Duty, Was that you a couple of days ago that had an issue with the 4X4 switch engaging. If so did you ever get that fixed.
