hello everyone i'm trying to figure out what my problem is with my 01 7.3 it doesn't start when its cold first of all i have replaced everything that is involved with the glow plug system and yet i still have to plug it in everynight to get it started in the mornig <i live in south florida not real cold here > any help would be appreciated !!!
yes i have replaced the gp's 'harness's' relay ! not sure what the UVCH or GPR is ? as far as the voltage you mean to the gp's ? and as far as the staring fluid the last time i drove the truck it took almost a full can of fluid to get it to fire up and stay running !
Starting fluid is not a good thing with the 7.3 engine. Also, are your batteries up to snuff. When my batteries started to get weak the truck wouldn't start in colder weather but it would usually start if I plugged it in. Replaced the batteries and all was good.
If you used a almost a whole can of starting fluid to get it warmed up enough to keep running, you might have a fuel problem. Test you fuel pump output and pressure.
If thats good , then you need a compression test. All that starting fliud will cause major time accelerated wear on the cylinders.
Get it running how ever you can, open the oil cap and place it upside down on the opening. if the cap is unable to sit there for a count of 3. (vibration will move it, not looking at that though.) If you have a compression problem, the cap will not stay on there for even a second.
Yea almost a whole can ! But the truck runs awesome once you get it started ! But the compression is the next thing I got it ready to do the compression test as soon my guy gets back in town he has the tool to do it using the glow plug holes so we shall see ! I keep ya posted! Thanks guys !
