Transmission question

I need to change to a different transmission to put into my 73 F-350 because I am using a 460 engine and the truck had a 390.

I can see that the C-6 with the right bellhousing is the right one but as long as I have to buy a new one should I be looking at a different transimission, maybe with overdrive. I am not going to use this truck for a daily driver only towing.

I don't want to make the change a large project so I am just asking questions at this point.

The C-6 is a very good tranny for towing, my Dad was an old FORD mechanic and we worked on cars at home....any kind of car.....we rebuilt lots of of trannies and all of them were chevy junkers and I don't ever remember rebuilding a C-6..... adjustable bands made a heck of a differance.

Stick with the C6. They are virtually bullet proof. IMHO the best transmission ever built.

Thanks, sounds like a good plan I will stick with the C-6. If I want to change later I guess I could always add a gear vendor gearbox.

I'm more of a manual transmission guy but if you are going auto I would definitely stick with the C6.

Edit. We posted at the same time.
