Expedition Extras

I just traded in my Explorer for the Expedition I have been wating for for over a year. The Explorer was a loaded EB version, and sad to say the Expedition is not. I want to add a few of the highly missed features of the Explorer to my new ride. Any info on the following ?

1) Overhead compas/temperature unit - is it a self contained unit I can buy new and put in where the blank fill plate is in the overhead console? Will the wiring harness connector be there to power it ?

2) Auto dimming rear view mirror - once again, if mounted, is the power take off or connector inside the overhead console ?

3) Auto lights on - besides the switch, face plate and sensor, are the necessary wiring harnesses incorporated into the harness or will they need to be added ?

I certainly appreciate any feedback. The truck is a 1998 4X4 model, 5.4L engine.

Thanks,
Greg Blakeney

there is an autolamp module plugged into the harness in the upper dash board. you should see a blank cover on where the light sensor has to go. I don't know yet if the harness connector is present because I have an EB expy with this option. my 2000 f150 does not have it and I'm looking to put it in. there is also a RPO block relay right to the right of the light sensor along with the switch assembly that you need.

I do have pin outs for overhead console but would have to scan to post or fax to you e-mail me alchemymike(No Email Addresses In Posts!) with fax#

I am also working on putting in the key entry pads for door handles. have pinouts and ford parts but would like to connect parts without cutting the keypad connector off. I have yet to find who supplies ford with the wire connectors they use

I can tell you from experience that the overhead console will not work on a non equipped expy. Mine is a 97 and I purchased the overhead console online and found that the wiring harness is not present. Also there is another box that is required to make it work. Not present either. Want to buy an overhead console cheap? Hehehe....
