On the "return" charge tube, just before the spider collector assy, you'll see a plug, with a black and red cable from it. Remove that unit..(air intake heater/AIH), then go to Autozone, and getta dodge cummins drain plug, believe pitch is 22x1.50, for 12 buks, then install it. Remove the black cable and red cable that hooks to the relay, but make sure you re-install the blue wire at relay.

There is an electric heating element in the cool side of the intercooler pipes just before it splits to each cylinder head. The purpose of the heater is to heat the air on cold mornings. Seems a bit silly if you ask me because that air was just cooled by the intercooler and now they want to heat it up again? Go figure.

At any rate, that heater element can be removed and a fitting put there to tap off and connect a hose for a boost gauge. That is what most people do. If you don't have a boost gauge, you can still take out the heater and put a plug in that hole. Some people think the heater restricts airflow and removing it increases flow. Not sure if that is true or not but it seem plausible. Here is a pic.

Pretty simple mod. It's removing the Air Intake Heater element from your intake path. You must have a loate '99 - '03 7.3. The early '99's didn't have an AIH.

Here's Clay's plug. It's very nice. Riffraff Diesel: RDP AIH Tapped Fitting

Here's a write up on how to remove the AIH that I copied from another site:
Remove the red wire (hot) from the air intake heater. Follow the red wire back to where it terminates at an electric solenoid. You'll need to remove this end of the red wire as well.

There is a blue wire attached to the same terminal post on the solenoid. Leave this blue wire attached. If you do not leave the blue wire attached, a diagnostic scanner cannot do a full contribution test on your vehicle. Do not ignore this.

After you remove the wires, unscrew the heater and remove it. The new plug fits easily in its place. Only snug the Air Intake Heater Plug as it seals with a rubber washer. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.

Keep any wires so that you can reverse the installation if you ever want to.

The AIH isn't always on and it's not economically viable to put in an intercooler bypass that works for 5 minutes every morning.

Correct, in fact many times you pull them out and they look brand new because they almost never activate. Here are the conditions and info.

The purpose of this product is to remove the restrictive Air Intake Heater from the intake air flow. Removing the AIH coil will not affect cold start up in any conditions. The PCM only commands the AIH to activate to reduce white smoke during extended long idle periods at low ambient temperatures. Specific conditions must be present before the heater is activated per Ford:
  • Ambient temperature must be below 32°F
  • Engine oil temperature (EOT) must be below 131°F
  • Vehicle power must remain between 11.5 and 15.0 volts
  • Parking brake must be applied
  • The transmission must be in Park or Neutral
  • Glow plugs must be off

Your right maybe several have, good point Ron. Of course I was specifically speaking about the wording not the bullet points that come from the Ford service manual.
