Exhuast!!!
If you want to buy a kit, most of them are just cat back kits.
How much are you wanting to spend?
Like do you want headers? High flow cats?
If you want to spend that much, you could buy the headers and cats separate .Then add it to the cat-back kit.
For the 4.6 F-150, I think pacesetter is the only one that makes long-tube headers for your truck. And maybe OBX.
Shorty headers are a wast of time and money! Only way to get a good sound and power increase is long-tube headers.
As far as shortie headers being a waste of time and money, that is an opinion that disagrees with the facts. Every legitimate dyno test I have seen did show the shorties producing more power at every point in the powerband versus the stock manifold. The headers also set the stage for further mods, and greater gains can be had with a tuner.
The main advantage of shorty headers is they can be installed with the stock cats and an otherwise stock system. Long tubes require modifying or replacing those components. This makes shorties more cost effective.
Back to the original post, you can get most of the gains you seek with a muffler alone, the muffler is typically the greatest choke point in the stock setup.
Yes the shorty's are cost effective if your not looking to pick up much hp. And if your not, why bother with headers at all!

With high flow cats there probably a lot loader then you want. And naturally you don't want 3 inch...lol But if I had all my cats still in place,,I think they would be perfect.
Look for a 2.5 with a 4 or 5 inch case and about a 20 inch total length.
Or you can go on you-tube and here some first to see if you like the sound.

To me it was the mix a lot of guys were looking for, but weren't finding with the more popular companies. Very glad I did.
As strange as it may sound, I also went with a cat-back system, but I bought the SINGLE cat-back system instead of dual-pipes. I would go for true duals for a higher RPM race motor, fake duals I'll skip, and I think the scavenging effect from a single exhaust is what a non-speed truck can use (2-wheel drives are more about speed, I guess, so that may be different - I have a 4x4). It was a conscious choice based on the engineering I had understood at the time, and I think it worked out.
