Well i'm in need of some winter shoes. The good ol chuck taylors just don't cut it for the winter months and my old boots have NO tread or insulation left.
Looking for a pair or light weight boots, steel toed, insulated and preferabbly(sp?) water proof. The only boots I have seen so far are redwings. Any others?
My personal favorite brand is 'Georgia Boot' you can look them up on the internet and find retailers. Any nearby western shop should have them too. They are top quality boots! Benjamin
Danner Boots are the best ive ever had. Made in Oregon. A little pricy, but the best. Ive had georgias, carolinas, wolverine, and redwings, none of them compare. The Danners will outlast them all. Just my opinion.
My uncle has a pair of the kangaroo leather boots from Mason (he used to sell them), and has had them for years. He swears by them--lightweight, tough as nails, never leaked (mink oil 'em each year) and very comfortable. A lot of the Mason shoes and boots are made in USA-- they will tell you for each pair where they are made. Anybody else used to sell Masons?
Do you have an Army/Navy surplus store nearby? I was in the Navy, and the basic black leather steel toe boots, issued to aircrew are very durable long-lasting boots. They aren't great for puddles, but if you keep putting on the shoe polish they are a little water resistant. I have had one pair now for about ten years, and love them for truck driving, and motorcycle use.
Caterpillar's have had a great amount of duribility from what i have seen, still on my first pair. Really comfortable too. they have them at JC Penny stores and on www.bootbarn.com on the internet.
