shifter or bts issue?

Just bought a 2000 7.3 that has a bts in it. Its my 3rd 7.3 and my question is about the column shifter. I don't know how to really explain it but it doesn't feel like it stops in different notches for the gears. Also the little red indicator doesnt really line up with what gear its in. In drive its between the n and d.I mean its really hard to tell if its in neutral or drive and I don't know if it has to with something in the dash that needs adjustment? Anyone have this problem? I hope that kind of makes sense

There are 2 issues that I am aware of that could be a possibility, the indicator can be easily adjusted with a thumbwheel located behind the main fuse panel cover, and then the linkage adjustment being off, both are easy to perform, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...djustment.html, after adjusting, then you can adjust the thumbwheel to indicate the correct gear. There are also some issues with torx screws coming loose, which add alot of slop to the shifter, ill look for that one. This thread may be slightly more benficial since it refers to a more broad array of possibilities https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ng-column.html
