I got a code 171 bank 1 too lean. What parts do I need to correct this problem? What side is bank 1?The first thing that came to mind was the o2 sensor(s).
Bank 1 is the side with number 1 cylinder...the passenger's side.
Quite likely the problem is the front O2 sensor.
Anything else that can cause a lean condition on that bank can also set the code though ....such as a misfire, vacuum leak, plugged injector etc.
Mike B. Have you done any recent work on your EXPO? This could be as simple as a fuel injector electrical connection either shorted or just plain dissconnected! I did a plug and coil pak relacement on my '99 EXPO 5.4 and I got the same code after I was done.....I was heart broken after that huge ordeal.........well I looked around and sure enough I forgot to reconnect a injector connection........problem solved.........
No I havent done any work to it lately. Now I do have a k&n air filter and have heard that the oil from it comes off sometimes and gets on the MAF sensor but that usually trips a code for both cylinder banks so Im going the o2 sensor route first.
What do I clean it with?Ive heard windex and q tip on here.BTW I cleared the light this afternoon and the wife drove it to work 11 miles and it didnt come back on,but I fully expect it to come back on later.
I clean them with Carb-Medic spray carb cleaner. Be really careful with a Q-Tip as the wires you are cleaning are pretty fragile.
If you do a search on here I'm sure you'll find more detailed instructions on cleaning it.
