heavy-duty steering stabilizer

bought new 2010 f-350 about 2 weeks ago. have had a vibration in truck since new only on the highways, kind of like it needed a balancing of all 4 tires , noticed that i had a shimmy in the wheel most of the time but on certain parts of the highway it would go away till u hit a bump then it will come back for a few secounds. checked tire pressure ,80 in the rear / 60 up front and have re-adjusted the pressure , now running 70 all the way around, rides pretty smooth on the highway, still getting the shimmy from time to time in steering wheel, now except when driving in town hitting ruts or holes in the pavement it rides like a tank. could it be the stock steering stabilizer not able to handle the bumps, or is it something to do with the crappy continentals tires on it. has anybody had this issue and how did they remedy it. has anybody replaced there steering stabilizer on there 2010 and noticed any difference and what make did u use .

have a stock unit in truck now, believe its hydralic. looking for either a big single to fit inplace of the oem or a dual set-up. did it fix what im descibing zmann . cant leave front pressure at 70 lbs , truck rides way to harsh and will leave my truck a rattle box.

i bet it's the conti tires. have you had them balanced? what size are they? any kind of lift on the truck?

big wheel/tire combos (even the stock ones) are pretty heavy. When you get that much weight spinning at speed then induce a "wobble" (via bump or what have you), it wants to stay wobbling. That's just physics. If you can get your hands on a gyroscope toy (I don't know where, but I know I had a couple as a kid. any relatively heavy "top" toy will do) and spin it fast, you will be able to replicate the effect.

A good steering stabilizer will help a lot. Better tires will, too - they should have a better lateral balance of weight and thus resist the initial wobble.

took it last week to dealer. i only had the truck for 5 days , steering wheel was tilted to the left and to balance tires.after an hour or so one of the service reps came over and said your all set, we re-aligned the front end , it was off a bit , and then told me to put 800-1000 miles on the tires , before they balance them, have seen this happen before with these tires and sometime they get flat spots that even out after a few hundred miles. obviously this meathead doesnt have a clue . steering wheel is now tilted to the right . pretty much the opposite of what it was going the other way to the left.. so bringing up to a mechanic i know next tuesday, he will see whats going on , balance , check runnout.ect.... ill go from there as far as a gas steering stabilizer , he told me that he doesnt think that it the steering stabilizer because its at highway speed.. tires are the stock continetals 275-70-18. on the polished rims

the death wobble always happened to me at 40-60 before I stuck a better stabilizer in
heck they even had an info bulletin for the previous trucks .. I am surprised they didn't get it fixed for your year

its not the death wobble, had that on a dodge i had. with front tires at 60-65 lbs. you get a slight vibration (like u feel every nook and cranny in the road) in the truck along with the action like the tires are alittle off on the balanceing. ( this is at highway speeds only) with the tire pressue up front set at 70 lbs it pretty smooth on the highway, but rides like a tank.
