I was watching the show "Junkyard Wars" on the science channel.....I used to love that show.....until they just took a sawzall to a perfectly straight 8' 73-79 bed...I am now boycotting that show on the principle that I need one of those and they go around cutting them up to use as a boat.....
so you going to boycott me for cutting them up too?
I've had a few go. Funny thing happens when you can't sell a perfectly rust free bed for a couple hundred... they hit the plasma torch.
Had one of these for sale starting at $400 and dropped to $200 before it left for the scrapper. No one would touch it around here.
And before you give me the "but us in the rust belt... blah blah blah" I have offered up to help ship rust free parts across country, etc. multiple times on here and while people do talk about it (some semi seriously, many not) NO ONE has ever come through.
I guess I need to pay more attention to this site....I was ready to pay $300 for a rusted out bed that would need all but one panel replaced on the whole bed....Next time you come across one, and you need it sold, gimme a ring. The cheapest i have seen a rust-free bed around my area go for is $650. And that was all dented up.

haha im with you. ive had many of them in great shape that i couldnt get rid of that i had to cut up and scrap.
Chase truck, I am East of San Diego south of you and I have to look in yards in L/A it seems to find anything. I am looking for a good tailgate for the 1973 Camper Special. There does not seem to be anything in the San Diego area. I have been looking on the Car parts web site. Not sure if there are better sites unless you just drive around checking junkyards.
Do you guys in sunny CA often get entire trucks that'd go cheap? Or is it mainly parts? I don't want to get your hopes up, because it'll likely be a couple of years before I'm in the market again, but I'll be looking and want to know what direction to head.
A lot of it is laziness. There are a couple guys I work with, one needs a carburetor for his Cutlass. I tell him they are $10 all day long at several junkyards, and I remind him for literally months. I could pick one up for him no problem, but I figure he needs to learn a lesson and do it himself.
He buys an Edelbrock 4 barrel 9online), when he needs a Rochestor 2 barrel q-jet. And then gets frustrated when it won't bolt on without adaptors or swapping a manifold. And then there is the emissions to deal with.
Whatever.
Another is constantly breaking his Jeep Cherokee. Busts a yoke, tell him they are less than $5 at the junkyard. Nope, cries and whines and even gets some billet garbage that doesn't fit and proceeds to cry and whine some more.
I just bought a 1973 F-350 very straight but without a motor for $300 in Palmdale East of L/A. There is no rust at all and all I really need is the tailgate.
I had a clean rust free S.C. that I had parked after not needing it anymore. Tried to sell it complete with a good running 400. No interest, Tried to sell the cab,was offered scrap metal price if I removed it. Removed all the parts I could use on my f-100, took the cab to crusher. Still have the frame and good box that will sit hidden behind the shop for awhile untill county tells me to get it out of sight, then to crusher it goes, cheaper than paying a fine each time they come by. Can you blame me ?

The problem here is shipping. We have rust free parts all day long but the cost of shipping them across the country gets expensive. Granted it can still be less expensive than the $1k or so people in the rust belt charge for good beds. Whenever I've talked to people about it I suggest getting a shipping container and filling it with a truck or 2 so you can be the one back there with the rust free gold people will pay too much for. That or just buy a whole truck and have it shipped out there. Take the rust free parts you want off it and part the rest out to recoup most if not all of your cost...

I knew a guy who used to go to the yards in El Cajon and find all sorts of great stuff. It always seemed to me like there was more down there than up here. Maybe it's a "grass is always greener" type thing???
As for car parts websites - not that I know of besides craigslist, and like someone else said - searching that sucks.

Whole trucks. I have them land in my lap a lot. Heck - it seems whenever I need parts I end up buying a complete truck for cheap, taking what I need and parting it out after. I often get the parts I want for free by doing this - just takes more time and space this way.
how much for the door? Include all glass? Regulator in good condition?
Door is a shell, but I have extra runners/ vent window if needed. No regulators or side windows that I can think of at the moment.
As for condition, it had previous body work, and probably could use a little more work, but has no rust. When I pulled it from the junkyard I sprayed a coat of Rustoleum to protect it and I have had it in storage for years.
I would let the door go cheap, the side of my garage is starting to look like Sanford & Sons.
