I am posting this for a friend that I'm helping with his clutch. His truck is a 1989 F150 4.9 5 speed. I was wondering is there any way to figure out what size clutch he has in his truck. I am not 100% sure but I believe the two sizes that came with that truck are the 10 inch and the 11 inch diameter clutches. Is there some tag or code that will tell what his truck has. Normally I would just take it apart and measure it, but he needs the truck as his daily driver so I can't sideline the truck for long. Any extra info would be appreciated.
I had a 11in in a heavy half f-150 I had a long time ago... it was a 91... I would suggest getting both cluthes from the parts store and return the one you don't put in... and if you put it on a credit card the 2nd clutch won't be on there long enough to get interest on it... Just a thought...
Stock size is 10" for a 1/2 ton truck. You can use the 11" clutch without a problem. Every flywheel since 1983 is drilled to accept both size pressure plates. If you do anything with the truck besides drive it around empty, I would definitely consider the larger clutch. It is no harder to disengage than the smaller one.
