I bought my PSD for work, but as I watch the prices for 7.3s spiral upwards, I drive it only when I have to tow. It doesn't sit, but I also don't just use it to run around. With less than 50,000 original miles on the clock, I have begun to think of it as an investment, rather than a tool for my business .
One boy I know just paid $26,000 for a very clean 2002 7.3!!
I personally think 12k for an 81 is worthy of being a Crack smoker. I keep Miles of my Truck also I just crossed 90k miles. at the same Time I dont look at my truck for resale value. If you are inventing in the resale value of a Vehicle the best place to look is the 1000 dollar beater cars that drive. You will still be able to sell them for 1000$ anything else your gonna be loosing money.
Ford dealers always want too much money for any vehicle they have. With this one, they are probably telling people that it's a collector's truck because it's almost thirty years old, and in good shape. Any one who pays that money for that truck is a fool. The dealer could just be testing the waters. Ask high and come down. You never know, someone might come along and buy it, but I doubt it.
Dang! I think Mr. Toliver is gonna make a killing on that truck...if he gets some sucker to pay that much. He probably paid a couple of thousand at most as a trade-in. It's nice, but it ain't THAT nice!
A few years ago a local dealer had a nice 86 that they had a $13K price sticker on.
That may not be to far off. If you keep a vehicle in great condition like that with low miles there will always be a buyer that just loves that specific body style.

I use to know a guy who had a late 50's or early 60's cadi that he bought brand new when he was young. Right before katrina (think katrina took it away) I got to see the car in person. It had under 15k on the odometer.... Im sure he would disagree with you on that one
It's like the ebay ads for clown trucks that people post every now and then. They have a $50K+ reserve price with a list of all the things that were ruin... err... modified on the truck and how much money they waste.... errr.... spent on it.
What is asked is irrelevant. Nothing will ever be sold for a penny more than a buyer is willing to pay.
Thats just funny. $12,900 for an '81?
I was at a local, small town ford dealer, they had a little early 90's civic they were asking $12,000. I was there for parts and had some time so I couldn't resist asking a salesman what made them think that car was worth that kind of money. Especially since the lot across the street had almost the same car, fewer miles, for only $1,999. At first they tried to sell me a load of crap until I pointed across the street at the other car, then it was this one was a deluxe model and that was a standard. I couldn't understand it and after I pointed out the other car, they really couldn't either. Drove by two weeks later and the car was still there with the same price tag.
