I cant seem to find any good sources for steel wheels for my 85 F250. Are steel wheels not strong enough to handle the weight and towing capacity or are they just not popular? Thinkin of a chrome or black off road style steel wheel.
I just pulled them up narrowed my search down and all they had for my truck were wheel studs. I may need to just hold out on wheels this time and just scavenge the jy. howd you find 8 lug wheels though
When i ca=hanged tires all day for a living I dealt with a lot of aftermarket wheels. The steel wheels tend to bend easily and as a rule arent real straight when they're new. I've taken brand new AM steelies and chucked them up on the wheel balancer and you can see 1/8" minimum wobble in 90% of them. AM aluminum wheels have 0 runout and are stronger IMO
I really dont have the money for higher quality aluminum and I dont want to bash up some nice wheels that cost alot. So Im tryin to be economical bout the wheels I get. I think a truck is a work vehicle and itll be easy to ruin a nice wheel while workin or off-roadin. Now a car I have no problem with aluminum because the chance of hittin a large rock or a sharp object is far less
What about finding stock steel wheels if you are going to do a lot of work with it. I would those would be some of the best quality steel wheels out there.
Wuts the widest tire I can go on the stock 16x6? Im lookin into a 33 or 35" tire if theyll fit without a lift. And I found another set of that style in the 8 lug in a 16x8.
Alright Id just be spendin the money on tires instead of wheels/tires combo then. but then again how much more is super swamper compared to micky thompson or the likes I guess Im really not changin anythin
