Gentlemen,
I have an issue with the ABS unit in my 2002 AWD expedition. The ABS light came on so I had it diagnosed to a front right sensor. I replaced it and the yellow light in the dash went out. Now it feels like the ABS activates every time I stop, hard, soft dry roads, doesnt matter. I have only driven it about 3 miles since I replaced the sensor and I unhooked the battery for ten minutes but it still seems as though the ABS unit is activating all of the time. Any thoughts?
No it would not. The ABS light would come on if there was a break or short in the circuit, like when the last sensor was no good. If the new sensor isn't seated fully, as in some dirt or crud is in the way, then the circuit is still complete which leaves the ABS light off.
However, since the sensor is too far away from the exciter ring, it will not register any pulses as the wheel turns so the ABS modules thinks the wheel is locked up and you get the ABS pump kicking in. This sounds like what's happening with you, so I thought I'd ask how sure you are about the sensor's positioning.
I took it all apart again and found some famous ford rust holding the sensor up a bit. Cleaned everything carefully put it back together and took it for a test drive. Problem solved. Thanks for your help.
i missed this thread the first time. what did you do to take the sensor off. i have the same issue? also i was told the front ones are like $230 and the rears are like $30, but i saw one that wasnt specified for about $35, which is accurate?
i was going to get one from the jy because i didnt wanna pay $230 right now, is that recommended?
