So, I have been wanting to upgrade the interior of my truck for a while. It is the standard XLT interior with vinyl bench and vinyl floors. I talked to an upholstery guy about redoing the bench and having it covered in leather but that was minimum $1000. So then I started thinking about pulling captains chairs out of an excursion and replaing the bench all together. Does anyone know what issues may come up with this? Any other suggestions? I have tried to find a thread on interior upgrades and I can't find one.
Thing I would watch for is how to control the seat motors. I have not seen many newer vehicles that do not have a power drivers seat, and they usually have a body module that controls them. I don't know if the Excursion came with a manual seat, the few I have seen were power. Not sure if the module can be retrofitted either.
Why dont you just sew up some leather to fit in place of the viynle,or you can give a seamstress the dimensions and have them do it for you ,it would be a lot cheaper than $1,000
I think going leather is going to be $1k no matter how I do it. The expense for recovering my bench is the cow hides. The upholstery guy said it would take at least two hides to cove the bench which is the majority of the expense for that job. Captains chairs would be easy to come by. It looks like anything out of a full size fseries or Bronco would do the job, however, new leather seat covers are $500. I am leaning on doing this tho. The interior of my truck is still very clean and I think the leather would look good not to mention feels good. I will keep posting on progress.
Put Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited seats in it. You might have to get crafty with the center portion there, but those seats are COMFY. All power, heated and leather. You'll for sure have to fab up mounting brackets, but you can pick up said seats for $100 at a junk yard in excellent condition.
I am going to the junk yard on Saturday. I think I am going the captain's chair route. It would be cheaper than going the re-cover the bench route plus I could get a center console with the saved $. Did you guys know that they make center consoles with fridges in them now? How awesome is that...
