Reinstalling steering pump on 02 f250 7.3 and Broke the shaft off the pump while tightening down with pulley installer tool. Now I have to start all over.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to prevent this? I thought it would bottom out when seated properly. A consideration I had to the cause of the break was possibly not threading the pulley installer tool all the way into the shaft, but can't see what that would cause it to break. Maybe it was a cheap pump, because it's pretty hard to bare down on the wrench considering the space.
the pulley should be almost flush with the shaft.. and the tool should be threaded hand tight of the way down.. if u rented the tool. make sure u use the right bolt.. take it too someone thats replaced my pump 4 times in 2 months
