i found a flat head with the lettersCIBA and heads with ICM this engine is in an water pump . What age is it and what do i need to lok for to see if would fit my 52 m1. Could someone guide me as to price Thank you
Sounds like a Mercury flathead, and since your In Canada most likely is??
does the return water hoses come up off the center of the heads or in the front of the heads? in front would be Late style in middle would be an earlier style.
do you have any pictures?
Price can depend on so many factors, most importantly is if the block has any fatal cracks?
sometimes ya just have to take a chance and hope for the best but I personally have spent $500 for a running flathead that ended up having 2 cracks in cylinder walls to valve pockets. as well as buying a flathead sitting out in the weather for years on an old hay wagon for $25 that ended up being a good rebuildable block.
as far as fit in your 52 M1 look at the water pumps (if it's a late style engine), of course you would probably want new ones anyways so you would just make sure to get the correct water pumps. not so sure on the earlier style engines in your 52 although I have seen a few earlier engines mounted in a 51 52 trucks so it shouldn'r be to much of a problem.
engine is running The guy who owns it now smoked it last year Iwount be able to see it again till next weekend . Was threr an industrial flathead this engine is mounted in a frame with all the wiring rad even has set of working gauges that look like a 49. it has the distributer in the front. I believe the water hose come off the front. This guy use to race flatheads in fifties he believes its a 1951 but cant remember the numbering
Merc cranks have been valuable for a long time, so I'd be suspicious that anyone would use a Merc 255 in a water pump. Merc heads are not particularly valuable and someone may have swapped them on, which lowers compression when used on a Ford engine.
There may be a data plate on the rear of the engine just above the bellhousing.
I have seen a number of Industrail engines with the plaque.
Being and industrail engine means it had a govner on the carb that set a speed for it to run. Change out the carb and ya have a road engine.
