6.0 Excursion Running Issues

Okay guys,

I need help; so I take my Ex to go have all new ball joints, Rancho Shocks, steering componets, and such and go to pick it up today and it has never drove sooo good.......BUT.... now I am having running issues; whenever I try to take off, it is missing, making a strange suction cup sound, and just pouring black smoke out the tail pipe !!!!!

Once I am up to speed, it "seems" to be running fine, but the slightest incline, it starts having the same symptons as described; almost like the "waste-gate" is stuck ........

Anyone have any clues ??? It was running fine prior to having all the front-end stuff replaced ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Anthony

The 6.0L does not have a waste gate, instead the turbo has "inlet guide vanes" that change position depending on desired and actual boost (or MAP sensor readings).

Check for leaks around the turbo, disconnected MAP sensor, plugged MAP sensor hose, restricted air inlet filter.

If those don't work, then maybe the turbo vanes are sticking. If so, you will need to clean the turbo. Hopefully you will not see wear around the unison ring.

Getting the codes read is always useful. Also, it always helps to know what year model Ex you have and if you have any mods.

The Tech Folder has good instructions on cleaning the turbo, if you find that you need to.

most things I suggest to check require a full functioning scan tool like AE at minium. you can pull the egr valve, you can check ficm voltage with a dvom. you can drain the water seperator and check the fuel sample visualy to see if it look funny.

I would check the Charge Air Cooler tubes also. A blown boot might cause your symptoms, it seems.
