Trouble cold starting

Hi guys im hoping one of you gurus could give me some advice. I have a 2003 F250 7.3 with about 135000 miles on it. It SUCKS trying to start in even 40 degree weather. Im on the fire dept so it is loaded with lights sirens radios you name it. i am gonna change out the glow plug relay tomorrow and was thinking of buying a priority start system for both batteries so at least im guranteed to have full battery power in the morning. I dont have access to a plug all the time and i need it to start when toned out. Was also thinking of one of the high end remote starters that i could program to start the truck every 2hrs or so in cold weather to charge the batteries and warm the block. I dont know if this is a dumb idea, i know the neighbors will hate me and i may go through some hefty fuel but its needed at this point. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Try putting a volt meter (digital) on the one of the batteries right after a cold start up.. If your glow plugs are working properly, there will be a voltage drop and should read around 12 volts for a period of a minute or so.. then jumping up to 13.8 - 14.3 or so..
Also HPOP and injectors like thin oil on start up and would suggest switching your oil to Shell Synthetic 5w-40 which a lot of us use here use.. you can use it year round.. Your engine will love it and will run quieter too.. better for the turbo also..
But, maybe a new glow plug relay will fix it..

thinner oil will make a big difference with cold weather start ups if you have a good working glow plug system
