I bought my wife a 1999 F250 SD a few weeks ago and we both are loving it, but a few days ago she noticed water in the passenger side floorboard. We've been having a ton of rain lately, so much that I think I saw a big boat with a bunch of animals floating in my backyard yesterday. Seriously though, normally I'd assume that the heater core was leaking, but this was just water, no antifreeze. Obviously the water is from a leak somewhere, but I can't find it for the life of me. I sat in the truck in a pouring rain and didn't find a leak anywhere. The carpet is wettest around the area where the door sill trim meets the kick panel, however she said she had seen a few drops of water standing on the top of the floor mat. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, where was the water coming from and how did you fix it? Thanks!
Haven't had the problem personaly, but it almost sounds like a windshield leak by the lower pillar.
Would seep in behind the kick panel and then soak the floor board.
BWB,
You mentioned a lot of rain in your post. Has it been warm too? One thing I noticed that was particularly bad in my Dad's Suburban was that it seemed like the A/C compressor? was condensating under the dash and leaking on the passengers feet. My Expy did that too, now that I think about it. With all the moisture in the air, that could be part of the problem.

I wish! My office is 90 miles from my house so it wouldn't make sense for me to drive anything nice when I'm going to wear it out in a couple of years. I tend to drive what I think of as disposable vehicles. Currently I'm driving a 1991 Toyota Celica. By convincing my wife that she needed the SD, I got a toy to play with without having to wear it out using it as my daily driver
Thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions. I asked my wife about the puddles and she the truck had been sitting overnight and when she got in the next morning was when she noticed the water. That pretty much eliminates that and the condensation as well. It's been too cold around here for the A/C, but if I am not mistaken the A/C runs when the defroster is on so I thought that might have been the problem but since it was wet when she got in the truck I guess that is out too. When I get off work tommorrow morning I think I'll take the truck to the car wash and spray around the door and the base of the windshield to see if I can find where the water is coming from.
Had the very same problem in my 2000 350..take off the trim piece that runs along the bottom edge of the door (the step) and see if it has a bunch of water in the channel there...there are some little rubber/plastic plugs all along the channel under the trim..a couple of mine were loose, so when I hit a good puddle the water splashing up would leak in under the plugs, fill up that channel, and soak into my carpet. Get underneath and you can fill em with some silcone or take them out from the top and seal them from up there...worked for me, no more water...let us know if this was the problem..I'm curious..
It looks like EOD might have hit the nail on the head. I popped the trim piece and the channel was full of water (and even a little mud!). I lifted the plugs up slightly and ran a bead of silicone around them then pushed them back down and wiped off the excess silicone. After it dried I put the trim back on and headed for some deep puddles (which are very easy to find with all the rain we have had). I ran through several deep puddles and then pulled the trim piece again and no water. We are supposed to get another good rain Saturday so I'm hoping that has fixed it. Thanks again for all the advice!
My last truck, a ughhmm.....chevy, one of the maaany problems I had was water leakage. They resealed the windshield three times, finally they had to remove the dash and seal somewhere on the firewall! Like a rock, hugh..........
i had the same problem in my 93 f150. it wasnt my windshield or my plugs in the floor. there was no seal in the seam where the roof meets the passenger side gutter above the door. the driver side was fine but the passenger side had nothing. the rain got in, leaked behind the rear speaker panel until it hit the floor right on top of the bolt that holds the seat belt to the floor. it collected there until i hit the brakes and it all came rushing out from beneath the kick plate onto my floor. i got some silicon and sealed it up. cant even tell its there.
I know you must have fixed your leak by now but i would answer in order to hopefully help others. I have had the same problem on both sides in which the channel once you remove the sill covers are FULL of water. For me it was a seam on both sides just under the rear window about 3-4 inches in. If you remove the stuff to get access to the rear of the cab from the inside and put a hose on your roof you will see the water coming in. I have air bags in the rear which makes the rear a little higher and the water then pooled forward all the way up by the front door. I used some flowable silicon and just squished a bunch down the seam and it ran all the way down to the ground. Or you can remove the bed and fix it. If anyone else every has this problem i hope they see this post. It can save alot of time.
