I just bought a 2000 ex limited and don't know what the keyless entry code is. The card is missing from the glove box and the dealer wants 79.95 to retrieve the code from the 3 computers in the truck. They tell me this a difficult process and takes 2 hours. Is there any other way to get this code from the vin number or something?
Also is there a brake control wiring harness that I can plug in to hook up my controller or do I need to splice all the wires. I do have the towing package option.
Yes there is a grey plug behind the little cubby at the driver's right knee that is the factory trailer wiring harness. Take off the knee panel below the steering wheel and look back toward the radio. You should be able to see it through the opening in the dash brace.
About the code, I just bought a 2002 and the card was missing. I took it back to the dealer tonight, they took it into the shop and said it would take about an hour. It did take that long to download the code. It works great.
I just happened to buy mine from a dealer, so they felt they should fix that for me since I just bought it. Very happy now.
Found the plug. Called a different dealer about the code and he said he would get it no charge. Now I will buy a plug from him and probably a tranny fluid change.
I have never played with the code on my truck , but do you know if you can open the doors with this code , while the truck is running ?? Example : You pull up to the local 7-11 , keep the truck running but lock the doors so no-one steals your truck , come out , punch in your code and the doors will unlock ???

Haven't tried that yet. Might be handy at rest stops. Let the turbo keep spooling to cool it and the tranny while you walk inside.
Make sure that you have your spare key and give it a try! Let us know how it works.
Got the door code today. It took the guy less than five minutes with his computer and I was on my way with no bill. Funny thing is both the dealers I called are owned by the same company. I tried it with the engine running and it works just fine. Interesting that the remote key chain doesn't work while the engine is running though.
I had the same problem when I bought my 2000 X. The card was missing from the glove box. The dealer took the truck in and within 10 minutes, they produced the master code. No charge!! I left happy. My advice is to take it to the dealership and demand to speak to the owner. What kinda of business do they run. They provide customer service up until you sign on the line.
