Waded through 12 pages of posts and didn't find the answer i was looking for. Ok i just put in a rebuilt starter from a battery shop with usa made parts along with an alternator, tried to start it and all i got was a fast buzzing sound from the solenoid on the fender. Thought it might be a battery issue so i hooked some jumper cables to my second battery thinking to double the amps. Still got the same buzzing sound so i replaced the solenoid with a spare i had and have the same problem. The only other thing i can think of is the neg cable on the alternator bracket which goes through the water pump is not a good enough ground. I tried directly to the intake but all i got was antifreeze seepage so i tried the alt. bracket. Can anyone think of anything that i am missing??? I am gonna try checking for continuity from each post on the solenoid in the morning. This is on my 68' C/S.
Edit: Ok went out and took some readings: with key on, 2.84v to + side of coil and .06 to - side of coil. Then i have 3.15 to I on the solenoid. With key on battery is holding at 8.30v and 10.08v with key off. I tried the start key and still have the buzzing sound even after i moved the ground to a valve cover. Any other ideas? Seems to me the battery is no good but if i change batteries will i get the same buzzing sound???
