if you can please let me know some stuff by tomorrow morning that would be great.
i got a friend at work that wants to sell his 89 bronco to me for $700, it sounds like a good price to me but i got a couple questions for you guys if you can answer them
- it is a 89 5.0l Automatic (A4od), pw,pl. 4x4
odometer says 137,000 but he did a motor swap with a 5.0l that had 100,000
-interior is good condition besides the headliner sagging.
-their are 2 seperate lights one the dash one check engine and engine, the Engine light is on(?) what does the Engine light cover?
- the motor has a choppy idle, it is straight piped, header is leaking
-now when i took it for a ride when you step on the gas and let off quick you feel a jerk, he says thier is a bad u-joint, and that the drive shaft is adjustable which is why it does that.
-the truck seems like it barely wants to idle which i think has to do with the straight piped exhaust., when i would get on the gas it had good pick up but the rpm didnt want to go over 3,000 even when in neutal and reving the engine. and when it was decelerating it seemed to be a little off but like i said i think it has to do with the exhaust.
- when i stuck it in 4l it worked but it seems like it shifted quick then back to 1st,
for $700 it seems like a good price to me for a 4x4 that works, and the body is just starting to rust in the common spots.
- i might get this bronco for a mudd truck and keep my f150 good condition, or i might fix it up and make it a weekend driver
.
before he swaped motors i used my f150 to pull it to the shop in another town and when he was backing the bronco on it didnt have any power at all, we had the rear wheels on the trailer and he had it floored and it went no where.
yeah the transmission seemed fine. did everything you aid. downshifting and stuff. i think it mught need a new fuel pump cause the kid said it runs like crap some days and top notch other days
i work with the kid and he is 18 and is trying to get a newer truck (chevy) for $7000 and the bank wont give him a load even with a co signer and he is going to see if the bank will give him one if he puts money down. but he has till today to buy the truck or someone else is going to buy it this weekend. i will tell the kid if he does i will take it. i dont mind fixing those things, plus it comes with a extra 5.0l engine, transmission, and transfer case. i also am picking up a 5.0l with 103,000 with a zf 5spd transmissions cause i might do a 5.0l swap in my f150 cause i got the 4.9l but if i get this bronco i can have lots of time to build up the 5.0l for my truck.
... cause i might do a 5.0l swap in my f150 cause i got the 4.9l but if i get this bronco i can have lots of time to build up the 5.0l for my truck.
On earth why would you remove a 4.9 (truck engine built specifically to BE a truck engine) with a tiny V8 (tiny because it has two more cylinders and is two lousy cubic inches bigger than the 4.9) that was never designed to pull around the weight of a full size truck? In a Mustang or a Crown Vic, the 5.0 is a fine engine. In a truck the 5.0 revs its heart out just building the rpm's to get the heavy truck moving. Its not about HP its about torque when it comes to moving a truck... keep the 4.9 or better yet, drop me a message when you do the swap so I can take the best light truck engine Ford ever built off your hands.
Ok, enough of my soapbox...
You said the exhaust is "straight piped". Has the O2 sensor been removed? Is there a cross pipe in the exhaust? Is the O2 sensor mounted IN the cross pipe? This is all critical for proper performance. No amount of tweaking will fix the problem if the O2 sensor is not properly located or worse its missing.
if my motor lasts i will probably keep the 4.9l it takes a beatting and good pulling motor like you said. i would keep my 4.9l. dont take me wrong i know what the straight six is for and i like it to be honest. if i can get this bronco i will keep the 4.9l in my truck and possibly use the bronco as my fun weekend truck. i would use my f150 to haul the bronco to the mud holes. i also like the 4.9l cause of the gas mileage.
well bought a 1986 Bronco 4x4 for 450$ has the 4.9l manual transmission, needs some work but its just going to be a mud truck. all it had wrong with it was the carb needed to be rebuilt. but the good thing is that i bought a 4.9l from a 83 truck for $40 cause the guy was going to take it to the junkyard
